Here you’ll discover a friendly, responsive team of respected professionals, each with an extensive understanding of human behavior and relationships, all ready to compassionately help you and your family.  The role of our psychologists, therapists, and counselors is to work with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with a variety of issues such as parenting, self-esteem, depression, anxiety/stress/anger, grief/ loss, or alcohol/drug use. We are experienced in teaching people how to deal more effectively with situations in their lives and helping them get “unstuck”.

FOUNDER- DR. KANEEZA LAFIR, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST & PSYCHOANALYSIS

Dr. Kaneeza Lafir, PsyD, PsyD, PhD is the owner and clinical director of Prepare to Change Counseling and the founder of Prepare to Change Child and Family Counseling. Dr. Lafir is a licensed psychologist who offers psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, psychological evaluation and assessment services, clinical consultation, in addition to managing the organizational affairs. She brings over 20 years of experience to the table, including 5 years in non-profit capacity, and offers short- and long-term therapy for children, couples, families, the elderly, and adults.

DUSTIN SHULTZ, LMFT, CEO

Dustin Shultz, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 20 years of experience who offers short and long-term therapy for teens, adults, couples, and seniors, working through patterns that prevent them from growing and living a full life.

DR. KELLY GRANGER, PSYD, DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL TRAINING

Dr. Kelly Granger, PsyD. is a licensed psychologist whose experience includes counseling, assessment, training and supervision. She holds extensive experience working with adults, couples and adolescents for many difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship problems, and overwhelming emotions.

APRIL TWENHAFEL, LMFT, AFFILIATE SUPERVISOR and DIRECTOR OF SOUL SANCTUARY

April Twenhafel is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over fifteen years experience in the mental health field. Prior to her licensure, April worked in the field of Social Work including foster care, crisis management and outreach concerns. April graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2007 and began her clinical practice at the Center for Individual and Family Therapy and has evolved her practice in this organization to date. She has been an adjunct professor in the Applied Behavioral Science program at Azusa Pacific University focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy for the past four years. April’s clients vary in demographics, however, she specializes in children, adolescents, and treatment of trauma related issues. April’s primary theoretical orientation is Attachment based integrated with Object Relations Theory.

JENNIFER FEE, PSYD, AFFILIATE SUPERVISOR

Dr. Jennifer Fee is a licensed Psychologist with over 25 year’s of experience. She specializes in the areas of trauma/PTSD, anxiety and depression. As an Approved Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Consultant, she helps other therapists become Certified in this innovative therapy. Dr. Fee is passionate about fighting the stigma that surrounds mental health issues via writing and speaking. She’s a TEDX speaker and avid internet live streamer. Dr. Fee made two appearances on Monique Coleman’s “Gimme MO” TV series discussing sexual assault and mental health issues.

BRENT SCARBOROUGH, LMFT, AFFILIATE SUPERVISOR

Brent Scarborough is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who offers both face-to-face and online* appointments for adults, couples, and families. He joins with clients to work through anxiety, depression, relational issues, and trauma. Brent also helps clients develop healthy relational and social skills. * Also known as telehealth, online therapy is for California clients only and is completely confidential. EILA ALVAREZ, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST ASSOCIATE

Eila Alvarez has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. She has also worked in ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis). Her goal is to provide an open space where clients feel heard and seen. She is a trainee under the supervision of Dr. Lafir. Eila is currently a clinical Psychology student at Vanguard University. She is studying to become a Marriage and Family Therapist and will be graduating in Spring of 2021.


GINA FJELSTAD, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST Associate

Gina Fjelstad cares deeply about others and is passionate about walking alongside her clients helping them work through life’s challenges. She desires to provide her clients with a safe environment that fosters hope and promotes personal growth and healing. With a previous career as a credentialed elementary school teacher, Gina has a special interest in working with children, adolescents, and parents. She has experience working with children ages four to twelve in a variety of different grade levels. Gina completed a Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma Training through the Saddleback Church Local Orphan Care Initiative. She understands the affects trauma has on a child’s behavior, feelings, relationships, and view of the world. She is currently working towards earning her Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University. She works as a marriage and family therapy trainee under the supervision of April Twenhafel, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

AMY BELANGER, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST TRAINEE

Amy sees it as an honor to be trusted with the stories and sorrows of her clients as they journey to live more authentically. She believes life was not meant to be lived alone, but in close relationship with one another. Amy believes our early relationships with our caregivers play a significant role in how we relate to one another as adults and the lens through which we see ourselves and the world. In our fast paced, disconnected society the gifts of presence and authenticity are often lost in our relationships. Amy is passionate about creating a safe, non-judgmental space for her clients to process their life experiences and the emotions they evoke. She attunes to clients with warmth, empathy, and deep understanding; always striving to walk alongside her clients through what they are facing. Amy sees her clients holistically, caring about their emotional, spiritual, relational and familial health. She strives to help clients become free to fully explore themselves on their unique journey to wholeness. Amy is a Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee and graduate student studying at Azusa Pacific University. She is under the supervision of April Twenhafel, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

KYLE HOSKINS, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST TRAINEE

Hoskins has a desire to create a space where clients can feel supported when going through life's challenges. He is interested in developing relationships with clients where they feel supported and cared for when coming to therapy. Kyle is a trainee under Brent Scarborough and is currently obtaining his Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University. He is studying to become a Marriage and Family Therapist and will be graduating in Spring of 2024. In his free time Kyle enjoys watching/playing baseball, camping, and woodworking.

LARUREN HART, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST TRAINEE​

Lauren Hart is a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee, who is currently working on her Master’s degree at Azusa Pacific University in Clinical Psychology. For the last 10 years, Lauren has worked in youth ministry and has a deep passion for helping teens and young adults navigate their way through whatever challenges may come their way. Lauren desires to create a safe and judgment free space for individuals of all walks of life to come and feel seen and heard by someone who genuinely cares for their wellbeing.

Madeline Jessie

MADELINE JESSIE, PRACTICUM TRAINEE

Madeline Jessie works as a doctoral student under the supervision of Dr. Kaneeza Lafir and Dr. Kelly Granger. Madi’s approach to therapy is depth oriented with an emphasis on psychodynamic and humanistic/existential psychotherapy. She also has five years of experience working with children, families, and individuals in short-term residential therapeutic programs. Currently, Madi is working towards completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. First and foremost, Madi approaches therapy as a client-centered and relational process. She strives to create a space where clients can come to be themselves. Given that every individual is unique, Madi endeavors to empower clients as they build upon their own innate psychological strength. As a depth psychologist in training, she attunes to what is both conscious and unconscious and how this can drive patterns of thought and behavior. Prior to her studies, Madi managed a residential facility providing therapeutic intervention to Social Services and Regional Center clients and families. This allowed her the unique experience to work directly with severe forms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. Driven by the suffering and abuse she bore witness to, Madi also has a deep devotion to and passion for social justice and culturally informed treatment.
