Our Story
Why We're Here
In the beginning of 2017, Dr. Lafir became the owner of Prepare to Change Counseling. Not long after, a long-time friend from graduate school and a couple of long-time colleagues began talking about their mutual goals and desires to provide affordable and quality psychotherapy and other psychological services to the local communities. Towards the end of 2017, Dr. Lafir founded the non-profit arm of the counseling center called Prepare to Change Child and Family Counseling (P2CCFC). The goal of P2CCFC is to provide the most qualified, rigorously trained, compassionate, and competent therapists available, at a rate that you and your family can afford. It is our belief that no child or family should ever go without the help they may need because of finances.
Our Vision
P2CCFC is a welcoming community counseling and assessment center where individuals of all ages develop skills, attitudes, and behaviors essential for personal growth, success, and overall well-being.
Our Mission
P2CCFC fosters the personal, emotional, and professional well-being of individuals and helps them reach their full potential by providing clinical/ developmental therapy, premarital and marriage counseling, and neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessments.
OUR PROMISE
Prepare to Change Child and Family Counseling does not discriminate, exclude, or treat any individual or family differently on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression (the patient’s preferred gender will be respected, and the patient will be referred to by their name and pronoun of choice, whenever feasible).
Every individual will be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Founder - Dr. Kaneeza Lafir
Kaneeza Lafir is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, born and raised in Sri Lanka. Her foundational training was in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Dr. Lafir received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PsyD) from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University in Southern California. She completed her predoctoral internship training at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and her postdoctoral training at the Biola Counseling Center. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at Rosemead School of Psychology. Her postdoctoral hours provided her with the opportunity to also serve as a clinical supervisor for graduate students, a role she continues to be passionate about. Her 12-year association with Rosemead transitioned when she decided to pursue her passion of becoming a psychoanalyst and also to begin the next part of her journey: private practice.
After becoming a Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Lafir began serving as a clinical supervisor at a nonprofit psychological counseling organization in South Orange County. She also served as their Director of Clinical Training, which included supervising Trainees, MFT Interns (now referred to as Associates), predoctoral and postdoctoral Interns. At the same time she maintained her private practice and beginning to pursue her 2nd and 3rd doctoral degrees (a PsyD and a PhD), both in Psychoanalysis.
